Pipefitter (SME)

As a Pipefitter, you will:
Be responsible for the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of water treatment and sewage treatment systems, high temperature water and high-pressure piping systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, vacuum and circulating pumps, radiators, etc. Install, modify, maintain, and repair utility, supply, and disposal systems including steel, cast iron, copper, HDPE, PVC, ABS and various other types of fixtures, fittings and equipment for sewage, water, gas, oil, compressed air, and vacuum systems; and water closets, water heaters, hydrants, valves, and pumps. Perform electric arc and gas welding of steels (carbon, alloy and stainless) and aluminum in shop and field settings; for repair and fabrication of piping, structures and mechanical equipment. Operate and maintain water treatment and sewage treatment systems. Responsible for the rigging, alignment and perfor mance of machinery and equipment. Provide routine maintenance and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic lock equipment and facility machinery and equipment including auxiliary items such as air compressors, pumps, sandblasting machines, HVAC equipment, etc. Layout, drill, and install rubber and wooden fenders; oil, grease, change filters, test, and troubleshoot machinery and equipment; rig equipment and machinery; place and maintain stoplogs and bulkheads; and repair and maintain HVAC equipment including lock furnaces, boilers, A/C units, generator sets, etc. The ideal candidate has experience at a journeyman level pipefitting skills and sub-journeyman level skills in the millwright, machine tool and HVAC trades. Qualifications for the position are based on the education, training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the positions to be filled. You must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to successfully perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. You may be required to obtain and maintain New York State certifications required to operate and maintain Corporation water and waste water treatment systems. You must currently possess or demonstrate the ability to successfully meet the requirements for all-position welding certification, and may be periodically tested to assure that skill level is maintained. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pipe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas, chemicals, or sewage. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Applicants must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. As part of the assessment process applicants to this position will be required to come to SLSDC in Massena, NY to perform a welding task. Your score on this part of the assessment will be combined with the score from the on-line test to determine whether your application will be referred to management
